There was much talk before the tournament of the new Jubilani ball and how it would impact the play, and in the early going it did appear that even the greatest players in the world were having difficulties with the new technology, with numerous shots sailing high and wide. Eventually, though, the players adapted and the fans were treated to a number of simply spectacular goals. The new look Germany established themselves early on as a scoring machine with a 4-0 drubbing of Australia and would go on to score a total of 16 goals, the most of any team in the competition. Young German star Thomas Muller tallied 5 goals and 3 assists to win the Golden Boot award as the tournament’s top scorer, edging out Diego Forlan of Uruguay, Wesley Sneijder of Holland and Spain’s David Villa, all of whom scored 5 goals but just 1 assist. Goal of the Tournament would go to Forlan for his incredible side volley in the 3rd place match versus Germany, with Holland’s Giovanni van Bronckhorst coming a close second thanks to his laser beam into the upper corner from nearly 30 yards in the semi-final against Uruguay. Relive every magnificent strike again and again with this thrill-a-minute DVD!
